Description of Holy Pilgrimage Certificate to Masjid al-Haram
The following artwork is a reproduction of a wonderfullegal document called a Hajj certificate issued to abled Muslims who completed the fifth pillar of Islam which is to visit the Masjid al-Haram (Sacred Mosque).
The original document was lithographed on paper and has an Arabesque floral frame. The central and focal image is the Masjid al-Haram depicting the Holy Ka'aba, Maqam Ibrahim, Bab Ibrahim, the Minbar and Bab al-Salam.
On the top band is calligraphed the Quranic verse (3:97):
Truly Safa and Marwah are among the rituals of God; so whosoever performs the Hajj to the House, or makes the umrah, there is no blame on him in going to and fro between them. And whosoever volunteers good, truly God is Thankful, Knowing.
The lowest band, in handwritten text with white a white background, congratulates and acknowledges that the pilgrim has successfully completed the Hajj.
