Quranic Destimal (kerchief) containing water used to wash Prophet Muhammad’s ﷺ Hair
Heart-Intellect Destimal is a uniquely crafted cotton kerchief that has been sprayed with Zamzam water used to wash the hair (شعرات النبي محمد, Moi-e-Muqaddas, موے مقدس) of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.
In terms of calligraphy, the destimal is scripted in thuluth khat. The central circular consists of the Quranic verses from Chapter 96 entitled The Clot:
Recite in the name of thy Lord who created.
He createth man from a clot of blood.
Recite; and thy Lord is the Most Bountiful.
He who hath taught by the pen
Taught man what he knew not
prostrate thyself and draw nigh
The top band expresses the Quranic verse ‘Remember thy Lord in thy soul, humbly and fearfully’ (The Heights; 7:205), while the lower band states ‘are not hearts at peace in the remembrance of God?’ (Thunder; 13: 28).
Heart- Intellect Destimal also contains two small circulars. On the right, it reads ‘Allah the Most Exalted’, while on the left it proclaims ‘Muhammad the Messenger of God’.
Historically, the destimal (Persian for kerchief) took on a special significance during the Ottoman Empire. Every year, the Blessed Mantle (Burda) belonging to the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was visited by the sultan, his family, and the court during a ceremony on the fifteenth day of Ramadan. During the visitation ceremony, the Blessed Mantle was either kissed or revered after which various kerchiefs were used to touch it. These kerchiefs, called destimal-ı şerif, were then distributed to public officials, religious scholars, notables, and ladies of the palace.
In an attempt to bring the spirit of this beautiful tradition back, Rumi’s Garden has created Heart-Intellect Destimal. Once the destimal is produced, it is sprayed with Zamzam water that had been collected from washing the blessed hair of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ making it a protective relic for the home or your person. Perfumes are added to the destimal.
